Let it be publicly known that the elders of this organization have badly mistreated my mother-in-law and father-in-law (life-long, faithful members), culminating in an attempt to call them down front Sunday morning (October 08, 2017) and humiliate and embarrass them publicly while withdrawing fellowship from them (the most severe form of punishment available to church elders to be used only as a last resort against truly unruly members as a last ditch effort to save their soul) without proper cause and warrant. (My in-laws have done no wrong whatsoever, certainly nothing deserving such heavy-handed treatment.) The elders have shown a conspicuous tendency to withhold needed discipline from wrongdoers and troublemakers (for their souls' sake, if not for principle itself) while joining the aforementioned in a conspiracy, in essence, to silence those who dare to plead their right cause and seek for justice. They have attempted to alter the natural course of legal affairs, including a pending court case, by pressuring the victim of a real crime (my mother-in-law) and witnesses (including other members of her family) to change their testimony or withdraw their complaint/charges all together by threatening withdrawal (which they did when my in-laws didn't comply with the elders' unrighteous demands, which nearly amounts to blackmail and duress, btw). In many matters throughout the years, they have repeatedly demonstrated a lack of good judgment, fairness, and sound reasoning (and perhaps lack of pure motives, but God knows about their motives), all qualities that are needed for oversight and shepherding of a small flock of God's people (that has shrunk so dramatically over the years under their leadership). I have witnessed considerable weakness and compromise with regard to God's word on the part of these elders. They appear to have their own agenda, and anyone who inadvertently gets in the way of that agenda in the course of doing what's right (or simply refuses to move aside for principle's sake) runs headlong into their wrath. As a result, I am hereby publicly withdrawing fellowship with these elders. I will have nothing to do with them until they apologize publicly to my in-laws (on a Sunday morning, the same time-period they chose to attack them), make restitution for the harm done to them, and resign as elders so that more worthy men might take their place and restore the congregation to what it once was many, many years ago. There are some good and kind and godly members of this congregation, like my in-laws, who held on for years (while grieving at the sight of the congregation deteriorating in number and in faithfulness to God's word) in hopes of seeing the congregation return to its former glory and who hoped that their influence would bring about such a result, but it is clear that the present elders are wolves in their midst who are running the local body with an iron fist according to their own will. As a result, I urge those good people to seek a congregational home elsewhere, even if they have to drive some distance, or otherwise to start a new congregation in Mount Carmel. (Mount Carmel needs a solid and sound and loving congregation of the church of Christ.) It's a sad day to be forced to advise such a drastic course of action, but these treacherous men need to find themselves without any power and with no sheep to feed upon. Their actions condemn them, not me.
